We never know the impact a chance meeting may have someone and there is nothing more humbling than being thanked for a meaningful conversation on a journey. I received this testimonial from a coaching client.
"I met Karen on a Train Journey to Manchester. I had recently retired after a career of over forty years in social housing. I am involved in governance of various charities and still busy but also looking to explore what I could possibly do next. Little did I know at the time I was speaking to someone who would open a door in my thinking to new possibilities. We chatted about life generally and I found Karen to be an engaging conversationalist and a shrewd thinker. The time sped by and soon we were in Manchester I took her details thinking I may contact her again. When she talked about life coaching I must admit my knowledge was very limited and I was not impressed with the concept. But clearly here was a sensible, shrewd woman who had a passion for helping people through life coaching. There was a momentum and credibility about her which was very impressive.Months went by and her details lay in the deepest reaches of my work bag but I would often reflect on what seemed to me to be a “golden moment” of a chance? meeting and I could not shake the impression that the meeting had a significance beyond the short time we talked.Eventually after several months I posted a message on her web site thanking her for the time we talked and encouraging her as she seemed to be gifted in life coaching.Shortly after that I received an invite to a workshop on coaching skills and I booked straightaway, there was a real sense of energy and optimism about the course. I attended what happily for me, turned out to be a one on one coaching session with Karen. Karen has the skill to help you focus on goals and identify the issues which are impeding your progress to goals. She does it a positive and gently challenging way. She can be very funny and shrewd to identify the obfuscation we sometimes employ to avoid real progressive change. Her focus has helped me put realistic time frames and detailed plans against by hitherto vague aspirations. She understands that real and lasting change comes from within ourselves but also understands what it may take to get us to face up to the obstacles and fears of moving forward.I wholeheartedly recommend Karen as a very professional yet very approachable and friendly person who is genuinely committed to values of social justice and empowerment. We met at Merthyr Football club and she was proud to be associated with the club as a community hub which is working hard to offer better life chances to young people. For me it’s the start on a new journey. I am looking forward, and slightly scared, about the challenges around my next meeting with Karen."
